Learn All About It

Pilates

Created by Joseph Pilates, the Pilates method seeks to develop a toned, healthy, balanced body with specific focus on creating a strong core. Inspired by his belief in the importance of muscle control and mind-body awareness, Joseph Pilates originally named his method “Contrology.” Pilates exercises include mat exercises, work with small props (such as bands, balls, foam roller, etc.) as well as several large pieces of equipment (Reformer, Cadillac, Chair, Ladder Barrel). The beautiful thing about Pilates is that it is more than just a workout. With the right teacher, you will get a great workout while you learn about your body and make new connections and discoveries each time.

  • Just about ANYONE and EVERYONE can do Pilates . . . adolescents, elderly, athletes, dancers, men, women, those with injuries, and mothers-to-be. Because of the extensive range of exercises, equipment, varying spring tension and modifications those of all ages and fitness levels will benefit from Pilates if done with proper instruction and on a consistent basis.
